big girls are beautiful.

Ruthie, Afton and I had our first shower!

This shower was special, because it was thrown by my younger sister's soccer and school friends - girls that I have watched grow up for the past 9 years and become beautiful young ladies ready to enter high school - and their hilarious and caring moms. These little girls started out knee-high in kindergarten, and most of them are now taller than I am!

My sister Caitlin was born when I was 13 years old, and I remember it like it was yesterday. Finding out about the "surprise" was a shock but she has brought such joy into our family and we can't imagine our life without her. Now she's getting ready to start high school...and she is the same age I was when I found out about her.

I can't wait for my sister to be involved and play a huge part of my girls' lives. I loved cuddling baby Caitlin, helping my mom take care of her, being there for the first day school, watching her in school plays and on the soccer team...and now she's going to be doing the same with Ruth and Afton. These will be some blessed little girls.

The most memorable part of the shower was the dance that the girls choreographed and put on for me, set to the song "Big Girls are Beautiful." It was absolutely hilarious.

Caitlin is on the far right...I'm the "big girl" in the middle.

amber teethers

I decided what to buy with my PayPal money!

I read about amber teething jewelry on That Mama Gretchen and was really fascinated by the idea.

According to balticbamber,

"When a baby is wearing amber teething jewelry on the skin, the skin's warmth releases healing oils from the amber (a resin) which are absorbed via the skin into the bloodstream...Children wearing amber is a very old traditional custom in Europe and the Far East. Amber is known to reduce inflammation of the throat, ear and stomach and to fight inflammation, infections and respiratory disease. Traditional beaded amber jewelry are a less intrusive remedy for the pain and side effects of teething...A natural analgesic, amber will help calm a baby without resorting to drugs. Amber's anti-inflammatory and therapeutic properties are also recognized by allopathic medicine."

I bought two, each a little different from the other, so hopefully they will help me tell them apart in the daylight.

book shower.

My group of girlfriends from our home community at Imago Dei hosted a brunch for me yesterday and showered me with books and gifts! I'm so excited about Ruthie and Afton's library! They are already starting out with some of the classics...

Will the Mallard family find a safe place to call home?

Will Brother and Sister bear tell Mama Bear the truth?

It's amazing what can be done in a day.

Will those silly Peters' children grow out of their picky habits?

Rooster and his friends want to see the world...Jack wants a big pancake for breakfast...Monica wants her Papa to get her the moon...and Hermit Crab is building the perfect house!

Can't forget about Bunny and all the fun things he likes to do.

And the wonderful world of Richard Scarry. Who doesn't want to live in his books?

All books found on Amazon or at Powell's Books.

measure me mommie!

My aunts gave me the cutest keepsake to document my growing belly - the Measure Me Mommie!

Cindy, the creator of this cute set, is actually my aunt's very good friend, and it has been so exciting to first hear about the concept, then the development, then see it take off! I'm so glad - not only because I want her to do well, but it's just so dang cute!

Each set comes with a "waistlet" and, depending on the style, different types of charms. My aunties gave me the Kristin set, which features vintage-style charms.

You choose your first charm, measure around your waist and align with your belly button, and you've started measuring! Cindy suggests picking a milestone to measure at during your pregnancy - for me, I chose family visits. For some reasons, my girls grow everytime family is around! You can see my progress so far below. I think I'm going to have to order the "extender" though, since I will probably run out of chain with twins...

25 weeks with the sisters...

You can get a cute shadowbox to display your chain in, or wear it as a necklace, or find a creative and cute way to display it and remember, "wow, I was huge!" In the most perfect sense, of course.

Here's another picture of it, modeled by my cousin's lovely wife Brita:
